At the tender age of six months, I was welcomed into the loving embrace of my aunt, a member of my biological father's family, residing in the enchanting Philippines. Growing up, I was aware of my adoption, but the mystery surrounding my biological mother remained unsolved.

It wasn't until my college years that a pivotal moment changed everything. During a captivating law class discussion on nationality and jurisdiction, I stumbled upon a life-altering revelation. As the professor cited examples using the United States' citizenship laws, something clicked within me.

You see, I'd always known that my birth mother was American, but the full extent of what that meant hadn't quite sunk in. It dawned on me that, by birthright, I too could be recognized as an American citizen.

Armed with this newfound knowledge, I embarked on a quest to claim my rightful citizenship. Booking an appointment at the US embassy during my final year of college, I took a leap of faith into the unknown. With scant details about my birth mother, except for her name, I anticipated a daunting journey ahead.

To my surprise, the embassy offered a glimmer of hope. They assured me that with a DNA test, they could help track down my birth mother and pave the way for my citizenship. It sounded like a long shot, but I was willing to take the chance.

Miraculously, within just a month, they unearthed her whereabouts. We swiftly arranged a DNA test, and six months later, a letter arrived in the mail bearing the news I'd long awaited – my citizenship had been granted.

This whirlwind of events transformed my life in ways I never imagined. It taught me the power of perseverance, the beauty of embracing one's roots, and the importance of seizing every opportunity that comes our way.

My journey didn't stop with the acquisition of my American citizenship; it was merely the beginning of a new chapter filled with unexpected twists and turns. Despite having spent my entire life in the Philippines, the country I called home viewed me as an overstayer once I obtained my American citizenship. It was a harsh reality check, but I faced it head-on.

At the tender age of 18, I found myself boarding a plane to the USA, leaving behind everything I knew and loved, with nothing but a handful of dollars and a heart full of determination. Arriving in America alone, without family or friends by my side, I knew that the road ahead would be tough, but I was ready to carve out my own path.

With resilience as my guiding force, I embarked on a quest to build a life for myself in this new land of opportunity. Landing a job as a manager at Laura Mercier, specializing in bridal makeup, was just the beginning. Despite the challenges and uncertainties, I poured my heart and soul into my work, determined to make a name for myself in the beauty industry.

Two years later, fate intervened once again when I crossed paths with my now-husband from Vegas. Love led me back to the West, where I found myself starting anew. But this time, I was armed with experience, resilience, and an unwavering determination to chase my dreams.

Driven by a desire for more than just making ends meet, I made a bold decision to invest in myself. Enrolling in a lash course proved to be a pivotal moment, catapulting me from a modest income to a six-figure salary. Empowered by this newfound success, I hungered for more knowledge and skills, leading me to delve into the world of permanent makeup.

Fast forward to today, and I stand as the proud owner of a thriving salon med spa, a testament to the journey from humble beginnings to triumphant success. From starting with practically nothing to achieving my dreams, my journey serves as a testament to the power of perseverance, resilience, and unwavering determination.
